One of my long standing goals was to climg onto Franz Joseph glacier. I arrived in Franz Joseph -- a town near the glacier -- and enquired at the local shop about the possibility of doing a guided tour onto the glacier. Turned out that they regularly book tours the day before and I arraned to participate in a 3/4 day tour. This tour was just the right length as it took us above the rock-strewn part of the glacier and saw the almost clean part of it. Too bad the weather was cloudy all day -- photos taken with sun shining would have been so much better. Oh well...

The scramble to the glacier included climbing over ridges	Finally, after an hour of hiking, we began climbing the glacier itself	Our guide, Rob, giving us some important safety info	..and way up the glacier we climbed

We encountered some blue ice	...but up and up we climbed	through another small crevasse	Another waterfall

We began our descent by going up	But soon headed down	On the way down we passed some deep crevasses	And when we reached the bottom, one last look at the route.
