I departed Wanaka on Friday, 25th of January, aiming for Christchurch, but taking the long way there. I drove the West Coast highway (SH 6) through Haast, glaciers, and stopped for the night in Greymouth. Not that there was anything I wanted to see in Greymouth, it was just a place where I was at 4pm and tired of driving.

From Greymouth I drove through Arthur's Pass into outskirts of Christchurch, then turned the van towards Akaroa, a quaint little fishing village on the Banks Peninsula southwest from Christchurch.
